Liam Neeson's film The Grey has been dubbed as "bone chilling" and "tremendous" by new viewers who have recently discovered it online.

The thriller was added as a free option for Amazon Prime members , who have been flocking to the internet to rave about the plot and Neeson's performance .

The Grey, which was directed by Joe Carnahan, was released in 2012. The fiction follows the story of six oil workers whose plane crashes in a remote part of Alaska.

Neeson plays the lead role of Ottway, a skilled huntsman who tries to lead the group past of pack of merciless wolves toward survival. The Irishman was praised for his work on the film, which grossed over $81million worldwide.

The Grey seems to be having a moment once again, having been rediscovered on Amazon Prime . Reviews have been popping up on sites like Rotten Tomatoes over the past weeks, with some viewers saying they've even come back to watch it a second or third time.

The film has an 80 percent approval rating from critics - but only a 61 percent score from audiences. That seems to now be changing, however.

"A cut above the usual survival film as it adds a layer of philosophy, and even a subtle spiritual aspect," one viewer wrote on Rotten Tomatoes.

"The fact that its audience rating isn't higher may reflect on the fact it doesn't exactly have the usual happy ending, yet it's a much more poignant one. Liam's acting is superb as is the other cast."

Another said: "A tremendous movie. Liam Neeson’s acting is brilliant. Not sure how anyone can say this is not a good movie. Story, cinematography, acting are fantastic."

A critic who left a review earlier this year described the film as "bone-chilling" and "relentless". Others agreed, with one person saying: "Brutal film. This is a very tough film to watch. I've seen it many times. Definitely not a feel good movie but the performances are outstanding."

Neeson's most recent movie, In the Land of Saints and Sinners , was released on Netflix in May to more rave reviews. The Robert Lorenz directed movie, which is set in 1970s Ireland, was a hit with audiences and continues to do well for the streamer.
