HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Blood donations have declined and blood usage at local hospitals has increased, causing blood shortages across Alabama.

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is urging the community to donate.

Summer is a difficult time for blood donations, and there is an emergency need for blood to help patients in hospitals across the state.

A list of hospitals that could benefit from blood donations includes the following:

    • Huntsville Hospital
    • Decatur General
    • Athens-Limestone
    • North Alabama Medical Center
    • Marshall Medical Center
    • North and South
    • Crestwood Medical Center
    • Parkway Medical Center
    • Lawrence Medical Center
    • Helen Keller Hospital
    • Cullman Regional Medical Center
    • Red Bay Hospital
    • Lincoln Health
    • Highlands Medical Center
    • Russellville Hospital
    • Madison Hospital
    • Gadsden Regional Hospital
    • Lakeland Community

These hospitals rely on LifeSouth and LifeSouth blood donors to make sure blood is available before it is needed to help patients suffering from traumas, cancers, and chronic illnesses.

From July 1-6, all donors will receive a $25 e-gift card and a special t-shirt. Double red-cell and platelet donors receive a $45 e-gift card.
