DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Local courts are set to receive new technology for fingerprinting.

In the Miami Valley, select courts in Clark, Clinton, Darke Greene, Logan, Miami, Montgomery, Preble and Warren counties are receiving the new devices.

According to Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, the technology will allow the state’s computerized criminal records database more accurate.

“Fingerprints are a critical piece of the puzzle when verifying someone’s identity and checking their criminal backgrounds,” said Yost. “These grant funds are being invested in the courts to further modernize the record-keeping system by building in a more fail-safe process to collect fingerprints. In doing this, law enforcement, employers and even everyday Ohioans can have greater confidence in the system.”

The move to have the LiveScan devices is also aimed at having complete records to be uploaded to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
