CLAY COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Part of U.S. Route 45 in Clay County is going to be closed next week in order to allow for a box culvert replacement.

Officials from the Illinois Department of transportation said the closure zone will be between Flora and Louisville, south of Hickory Hills Lane (County Road 700N). Work will begin Monday and last for three days.

To facilitate construction, only local traffic will be allowed in the closure zone. A detour utilizing U.S. Route 50, Xiena/Iola Road and Kinmundy Road will be posted.

Drivers are asked to either use the detour or another route. If they do approach the construction zone, they are asked to pay close attention to the changed conditions and signs in the work zone, obey the posted speed limits and be alert for worers and equipment.

The culvert replacement is a part of the Rebuild Illinois Capital Plan, which so far has included $12.1 billion in statewide improvements on over 5,000 miles of highways and roads.
