    Vehicle accident shuts down southbound I-79 traffic in Monongalia County

    MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Both southbound lanes of traffic on Interstate 79 are closed following a vehicle accident in the area Tuesday evening.

    Officials with the Monongalia County 911 Center were unable to provide details about the wreck but did say that the lanes will be closed for an “extended period of time.” The northbound lanes are still open.

    West Virginia 511 reported the wreck at around 5:22 p.m., and data shows that the wreck happened around mile marker 159, which sits near the West Virginia-Pennsylvania state line.

    The Monongalia County 911 Log also says that crews were alerted to a “medical rescue with death” at around 5:04 p.m.
