Pure Gym recently sought to determine which iconic landmarks around the world delivered the 'most physically demanding' experience for visitors and a Colorado attraction ended up ranking second.

In order to make the determination, three factors were considered – number of steps required to get to the highest viewpoint, total elevation change, and the average temperature at the site.

Anyone familiar with the popular outdoor recreation experiences around Colorado won't be surprised that the Manitou Incline ended up ranking second, one of three US spots to make the list, which also included the St. Augustine Lighthouse in Florida (ranking 18th) and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in North Carolina (ranking 22nd).

Those who have tackled the Manitou Incline and its 2,768 steps over the course of a mile with a 2,000-foot vertical gain are likely shocked that there's any experience considered to be more strenuous, but indeed, there is.

Norway's Flørli Stairs took the top spot, with 4,444 steps and an elevation change of about 2,500 feet over about 1.2 miles of climbing. They're at a power station, and also provide a stunning view of the surrounding mountainous landscape.
