SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The American Automobile Association (AAA) will provide a free service to keep impaired drivers off the road during the week of Independence Day.

The Auto Club Group has launched its Tow to Go program in Georgia and other select states offering a safe ride for would-be-impaired drivers and their vehicles during the busy holiday period.

The free service will last from 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, to 6 a.m. Monday, July 8.

When calling Tow to Go, a tow truck is dispatched to transport the vehicle and its owner to a safe location within a 10-mile radius .

The service is free, and you do not have to be a AAA member to book your ride.

“By providing this program, AAA gives drivers no excuse for driving under the influence of drugs, alcohol or impairing medications,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “We implore you to think ahead and enlist a friend to take on the role of your designated driver. If those plans fall through, you can call Tow to Go and AAA will arrange for a safe ride for you.”

The service is not offered in South Carolina. It is limited to one person per ride.
