Michelle Obama Is Only Democrat Beating Trump in New Post-Debate Poll – And It’s by A LOT

Former First Lady Michelle Obama is the only Democrat running ahead of former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical matchup, according to a new poll.

The Democratic Party is reeling after Thursday’s horrendous debate performance by President Joe Biden , who fumbled his words, got lost mid-sentence, and at one point declared , “We finally beat Medicare.”

The showing was so bad that MSNBC hosts discussed hypothetical scenarios in which Biden is replaced as the nominee. On Tuesday, the president blamed his bad outing on a taxing international trip from which he returned 12 days before the debate.

On Tuesday, Reuters/Ipsos released its latest poll , which was fielded on Monday and Tuesday. It shows Biden and Trump tied at 40% each. Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris notches 42% to Trump’s 43%. Democratic Governors Gavin Newsom , Gretchen Whitmer , Andy Beshear , and J.B. Pritzker all trail Trump by more.

Only Obama led Trump in the poll, and it is by a substantial margin: 50% to 39%.

The poll surveyed 892 registered voters and has a margin of error of 3.2%.

Most voters continue to have unfavorable opinions of Biden and Trump, according to the survey. Obama polled the best in this category, with a 55% favorable rating, to Trump’s 42%. Biden’s is even worse, at 38%

The former first lady ruled herself out as a candidate earlier this year. Moreover, there is no guarantee she would maintain those numbers if she were to be nominated against all odds. Hillary Clinton enjoyed a favorable rating of 66% in the late 2000s, but that number steadily declined during her tenure as secretary of State and decreased further as a presidential candidate.
