Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. claimed on Tuesday he would eat “virtually anything” after he was accused of eating the barbecued remains of a dog.

During an appearance on NewsNation’s Cuomo , Kennedy protested a Vanity Fair article which accused him of eating a dog in 2010 – the same year a worm was found in his brain.

“They did this story that I ate a dog, and they have a picture of me supposedly eating a dog, and of course it’s not a dog,” he insisted. “They said I was eating a dog in Korea and that they had checked with experts, metadata experts, and identified it as Korea and checked with veterinarians who validated that it was a dog.”

Kennedy then claimed the photo actually showed him eating a goat in Patagonia during a kayaking trip.

“It’s a goat and it’s in Patagonia, and it’s a river trip that I used to do, on a big white water river called the Futaleufú every year,” he told NewsNation host Chris Cuomo . “A big, you know, kayaking trip where that’s what we ate. That’s what everybody eats down there, is goats.”

Kennedy described the Vanity Fair article as “a dumpster of misinformation,” before declaring:

I am a very adventurous eater, Chris. I think you know about that about me. I’ll eat virtually anything. There’s two things I wouldn’t eat. Well, three. I wouldn’t eat a human, I wouldn’t eat a monkey, and I wouldn’t eat a dog. I think I’d eat anything else, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do those things, so it is a goat and you are what you eat.

According to Vanity Fair , Kennedy sent the 2010 photo – which showed Kennedy and an unidentified woman chomping down on “the barbecued remains of what appears to be a dog” – to a friend last year, along with a joke about Koreans eating dog.

“Kennedy told the person, who was traveling to Asia, that he might enjoy a restaurant in Korea that served dog on the menu, suggesting Kennedy had sampled dog,” wrote Vanity Fair ‘s Joe Hagan . “A veterinarian who examined the photograph says the carcass is a canine, pointing to the 13 pairs of ribs, which include the tell-tale ‘floating rib’ found in dogs.”
