( KRON ) — California Forever, the group proposing to build a new community in Solano County, released renderings on Tuesday of a potential lagoon that would sit in the middle of the area.

California Forever partnered with Crystal Lagoons, a company that has built man-made lagoons in 23 states. The facility would include a beach, water sports and an entertainment park, California Forever said.

In addition to water activities, there would be restaurants, cafes and other entertainment venues in the area, per California Forever. The lagoon will be open to all residents of Solano County.

"California has some of the best beaches in the country, but it can be a long drive, with bumper to bumper traffic, during scorching summer heat,  just to get to beaches where our families can cool off and have fun," said Mike Fortney, Director of Partnerships at California Forever. "We're incredibly excited to bring a project like this to Solano County, so all local families can enjoy a relaxing day on the sand and in the water without traveling far from home."

Renderings of the lagoon show a large body of blue water with beaches populated by sunbathers surrounding it.

California Forever said it would be seven acres in size, enough to accommodate thousands of people. It would be able to use saltwater or freshwater. Organizers are optimistic about the amount of water it would need, saying it will “use 25 times less water than the average 18-hole golf course in Solano County, and up to 100 times fewer chemicals than traditional swimming pools or drinking water treatment systems.”

Crystal Lagoons, which would be tasked with building lagoons, has completed more than 275 similar projects. The California Forever lagoon would be Crystal’s second lagoon in the Golden State, after one planned for Disney’s community in Southern California.

The new community proposed by California Forever would require 17,500 acres of land to be rezoned in east Solano County. County residents will be able to vote on the new community in November.
