TROY TWP, Pa. ( WETM ) — Repairs are in place and are set to begin in Bradford County on a damaged bridge that is currently detouring traffic on Route 6.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, work is set to begin on July 8 on a Route 6 bridge that crosses over Sugar Creek.

The bridge was damaged when an oversized truck crossed over and its load struck the top part of the bridge, resulting in substantial damage.

Starting July 8, the contractor will bring equipment and materials to the work site to start repairs on the bridge. PennDOT said the contractor will begin removing the damaged truss members and replace them with steel beams, and conduct heat straightening to the damaged members that are not being replaced.

A detour remains in place for all vehicles, with passenger vehicles designated to Leona Road, Route 4014, and Route 14. Large trucks and commercial vehicles are designated to use Berwick Turnpike, Springfield Road, and Route 14.

As stated before in a news conference by PennDOT officials , work on the bridge is planned to be finished by the end of August 2024.
