A six-week operation led by the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office Illegal Firework Task Force led to more than 7,000 pounds of illegal fireworks seized.

The sheriff's office announced Monday that during their operation deputies removed 7,448

Pounds of dangerous fireworks from the county, 129 pounds of explosive precursor powders were seized, 145 destructive devices were confiscated, and 13 arrests were made.

Additionally, the operation led to the initiation of 31 investigations, 29 charges, seven firearms taken off the streets, four citations issued, three search warrants executed, two suppressors were found, and one explosives lab was dismantled.

Deputies reminded the public that all fireworks, despite ones with safe and sane seals, are still illegal in some unincorporated areas throughout the county.
