TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Today was hot & humid, with temperatures topping ou tin the mid to low 90s. We saw a late start to the afternoon showers, with the downpours growing and peaking closer to sunset.

Rain chances fade after sunset anf temperatures will cool slowly into the mid to upper 70s and low 80s. Expect partly cloudy skies by sunrise.

There will be slightly fewer storms around for July 4th tomorrow, the rain chance is still 40% in the afternoon and evening. Listen for thunder and head inside to stay safe if a storm develops near you. Otherwise, expect a steamy day with highs in the mid 90s.

We keep scattered afternoon storms in the forecast Friday and the weekend. Each day starts out dry with storms increasing later in the day.

Hurricane Beryl made a close pass if not a full landfall in Jamaica today as a major hurricane. After that, wind shear continues to weak the system as it gets closer to the Yucatan Peninsula. There is a chance the system gets close to a US landfall in southern Texas, but that is still several days away.
