CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Summer temperatures continue climbing in the Lowcountry, and Dominion Energy reminds residents of ways to keep their bills down.

Energy experts say to keep your temperature at 78 degrees to minimize costs and to use ceiling fans to cool the room.

Officials also say to close blinds and curtains to avoid direct sunlight. Instead, open your windows to allow cool air to sift in.

To further help residents, Dominion Energy is offering free home energy checkups. A professionally trained employee will conduct a visual energy assessment and review various factors impacting your home’s energy efficiency.

Following the home checkup, officials say residents will be entered for a chance to win a $100 Amazon gift card.
