Thousands of ‘safer, more efficient’ USPS vehicles being made in Spartanburg County

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Postal workers nationwide will soon be driving in newer, safer vehicles according to one corporation in Spartanburg County.

Leaders with Oshkosh Defense Spartanburg Assembly told 7NEWS they’ll be making 50,000-100,000 vehicles for the U.S. Postal Service over the next seven years.

VP of Business Unit Operations Paul Brazeau said there are upwards of 500 team members building these next-generation fleet vehicles. They come with larger doors and other features like 360-degree cameras and object detection sensors.

“Really it just fits in our business model. Our mission is to really provide capabilities and products to people that depend on us to serve, protect and build communities around the world,” said Brazeau.

Brazeau also said the vehicles are designed to improve postal worker safety and efficiency. He told 7NEWS that the company already started delivering training and carrier vehicles for the USPS.

“This vehicle is going to connect every business and every home across the nation for years to come. And really, it just fits in our business model,” Brazeau added.

According to Brazeau, Oshkosh Defense will be expanding due to this large-scale production. They’re slated to add 1,000 new jobs to their Spartanburg location in the fall.
