The team behind Wonderland Books shared their top summer reads with us — both new releases and classic bangers that run the gamut from easy-breezy to serious.

Why it matters: It's almost the Fourth of July — you'll need something to read by the pool or beach.

📚 " Summer Fridays " by Suzanne Rindell: "A summer romance with heft that's also a nostalgic look at New York in the early aughts," says Weiswasser.

📚 " Sandwich " by Catherine Newman: This follows a woman at her annual Cape Cod family vacation as she navigates the transition between being a mom of grown kids and a child of aging parents. "[It] hit me in all the places as the mother of teens and a daughter of an elderly father," says Joyce.

📚 " The Demon of Unrest" by Erik Larson : A historical nonfiction look at the months between Abraham Lincoln's election and the lead-up to the attack on Fort Sumter and the start of the Civil War.

📚 " 28 Summers " by Elin Hilderbrand: Based on the film "Same Time Next Year," this Nantucket-based book takes place over a series of one weekend per year during a decades-long relationship.

📚 " James " by Percival Everett: A retelling of Mark Twain's "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" from the enslaved character Jim's point of view.

📚 " An American Marriage " by Tayari Jones: "This perfect novel is about a heartbreaking love triangle and the experience of being Black in America," says Weiswasser.
