Missing woman's body found; boyfriend arrested

The Stark County Sheriff says a 26-year-old man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the death of a woman who was reported missing on Tuesday.

Sean Goe of Plain Township is being held on a 1 million dollar bond in the Stark County Jail. Goe is being held on outstanding warrants for domestic violence and criminal damaging, burglary, and grand theft of a firearm.

Goe has not yet been charged in Sheridan's death, and an arraignment has yet to be set.

After a plethora of tips, Goe was recognized at a Canton homeless shelter and arrested Wednesday morning.

Maier said that around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, deputies were called to the 4100 block of Orchard Dale Drive NW in Plain Township to look for Raychel Sheridan, 24, who was reported missing by her mother.

"It was a general call, hey I haven't heard from my daughter, in a couple days, her communication with me, we communication via text, her communication fell off. And it's my understanding that she was aware that she was a no call no show for her employment, and the mother said that was unusual for her," said Stark County Sheriff George Maier.

Deputies said her apartment door was open, and no one was home. They added Sheridan to the national database as a missing person.

Deputies had a search warrant issued, and after they were able to enter the home, where they said they saw signs of foul play.

While deputies were at the scene on Tuesday, they saw a maroon Jeep Liberty they believed to be Sheridan's on Guilford Avenue NW. When deputies initiated a traffic stop, the driver, 26-year-old Sean Goe, who was Sheridan's live-in boyfriend, fled from the vehicle on foot.

"Sean has active warrants for burglary, grand theft of a firearm, and misdemeanor charges of domestic violence which involved our victim," said Maier.

Deputies pursued Goe and brought in K-9s but were unable to find him near the area of 38th Street NW and Guilford Avenue NW.

"I believe there were previous calls both from him and her and there appears to be some cycle of domestic violence there. There was an active warrant for him for domestic violence, I think that occurred sometime in May. Apparently, he did not show up for court on that," said Maier.

Around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Canton sanitation workers found a body that appeared to be Sheridan's in the southwest area of the community.

A cause of death has not been released.

Neighbors at the apartment complex remember Raychel as friendly, "I was really hoping that she would have been found alive. It makes me really, really hurt knowing that. That's just so unfair, I feel like. That is so, so heartbreaking," said Genaveve Knight, of Canton.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of Raychel’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” said Maier. “I want to take a moment to acknowledge the tireless efforts of our Deputies and the collaborative work with our law enforcement partners. By working together, we were able to swiftly identify a suspect in connection with this case and take another step towards justice and closure for the family.”
