The anti-Trump Lincoln Project PAC received backlash on Tuesday after it gleamingly suggested former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon would be raped in prison.

In a video captioned, “The cost of being Trump’s bitch? Becoming a prisoner’s bitch,” which was published a day after Bannon reported to prison, a voice for the Lincoln Project could be heard saying, “Hey Steve, a wise man once said, ‘Kick someone’s ass the first day or become someone’s bitch.’ Of course, you may run into some problems on both of those fronts.”

As the video showed stock footage of a man washing himself with soap in a shower, the voice continued, “First of all, you look about as intimidating as a butterfly fart, so kicking anyone’s ass will probably result in becoming someone’s bitch anyway.”

The video went on to mock Bannon’s appearance and suggest he join a gang of prison skinheads, before concluding with the disclaimer, “Paid for by the Lincoln Project.”

The Lincoln Project quickly received backlash on social media over the video, with critics accusing the anti-Trump organization of making light out of rape.

“As someone who has survived rape, seeing it used as a political weapon is disgusting beyond words,” reacted conservative journalist Chad Felix Greene . “No one deserves to be raped. It is not something to mock your political opponents with.”

Robby Soave , co-host of The Hill’s Rising and a senior editor at Reason, called the video “absolutely disgusting” and “vile,” while Reason associate editor Billy Binion tweeted , “This is absolutely repulsive. If partisan politics has led you to a point where you are cheering on prison rape, then something in your soul is seriously broken.”

“Taking glee in the prospect of prison rape is bad,” weighed in The Atlantic’s Conor Friedersdorf , while National Review senior writer Dan McLaughlin tweeted, “Endorsing prison rape as the punishment for contempt of Congress is very on-brand for the Lincoln Project.”

The Lincoln Project was launched in 2019 by a group of Republicans who opposed former President Donald Trump , and the PAC went on to endorse President Joe Biden during the 2020 election.

The organization received criticism in 2021 after one of its co-founders, John Weaver , was accused of sexual misconduct by 21 men, including a man who alleged Weaver had first started sending him inappropriate messages at the age of 14.

According to reports, several leaders of the Lincoln Project were aware of allegations made against Weaver nearly a year before the accusations went public.
