Alabama State Parks are set to become even more enchanting.

With a $25,000 grant from the Alabama Association of Resource, Conservation, and Development (RC&D) Councils, 12 parks across the state will soon feature pollinator gardens.

This project aims to attract bees, birds, and butterflies, enhancing both the beauty and ecological value of these parks.

    A Tribute to Greg Lein

During National Pollinator Week, the first garden was unveiled at Oak Mountain State Park.

In a touching ceremony, the garden was dedicated to Greg Lein, State Parks Director, for his visionary leadership.

"This is an unexpected honor," Lein said, expressing his gratitude.

    Education and Engagement

Six of the new gardens will include story trails, making them perfect for educational visits.

Renee Raney, Chief of Interpretation and Education, highlighted that these trails will feature children's storybook experiences.

"Our Teacher Toolkits will turn these gardens into interactive learning zones," she said, envisioning a blend of fun and education.

    A Commitment to Conservation

The pollinator gardens address the critical decline of pollinators due to habitat loss and pollution.

Tasha Simon, Chief of the Natural Resources Section, explained, "Healthy ecosystems depend on pollinators."

These gardens will help sustain the vital plants that pollinators need to thrive.

    Plan Your Visit

The pollinator gardens, spread across 12 parks, including Oak Mountain, Gulf, and Lake Guntersville, promise a new attraction for visitors.

Park leaders encourage guests to explore these natural wonders and make reservations in advance through the Plan Your Adventure Online portal at Alapark.com.

The new gardens will surely become a favorite spot for both nature lovers and casual visitors alike.
