ST. LOUIS – Early morning sub-severe thunderstorms will bring some heavy rain to the region to start our Wednesday. This will be the first of several rounds of rain and storms that we will be tracking over the next 48 hours.

The morning rain will fade as the sun comes up. Hot and humid Wednesday, highs near 90. The next round of scattered rain and thunderstorms will develop Wednesday afternoon and continue into the evening.

Areas along and south of I-70 in MO and IL are more likely to be impacted. A severe storm can’t be ruled out with the threat of strong wind gusts and hail through 8pm.

After midnight, a third round of rain and storms will move in on Thursday. This one looks to be the heaviest rain maker. These storms may train and follow one after another, leading to flash flooding concerns into Thursday morning.

The heaviest rain may end by 9 a.m. but scattered storms may linger. This may slow parade and festival preparations.

Afternoon looks like the pick-time for Independence Day plans, bringing a break from the rain. But it will be very warm and humid, highs in the mid- to upper 80s.

One more round of storms moves in for Thursday night. Right now, the prime time for those storms looks to be 8 p.m. to midnight. That would lead to problems for fireworks displays, especially in Missouri. Be ready to adjust plans.

We will dry out Friday, highs in the mid 80s. The weekend looks nice: upper 80s Saturday and low 90s Sunday.
