(WYTV) – Drinking is really a big part of our culture, especially in the summertime. But too much drinking has consequences.

Moderation is key, and doctors recommend keeping a few things in mind.

“You can alternate between drinking alcohol and water. That helps — making sure that you have a good meal before you’re drinking. Empty-stomach drinking is very hazardous. You know, there are apps that you can now use to track your drinking,” said Dr. Akhil Anand, an addiction psychiatrist.

Alcohol can lead to more than 200 health conditions, including several types of cancer.

Drinking may make you feel good at the moment, but it can ultimately cause long-term mental health issues and interfere with your sleep cycle.

Experts recommend that men have no more than two drinks in a day and women have no more than one.
