    VSP: One dead after crash in Russell County

    RUSSELL COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — One person is dead after a single-vehicle crash on Swords Creek Road in Russell County on June 30.

    Virginia State Police (VSP) reports a 2007 Chevrolet Express was driving northbound on Swords Creek Road, near Franks Hollow Road just before 4 p.m.

    The vehicle then ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree and guardrail, VSP reported.

    The driver of the vehicle, identified by police as Curtis R. Nichols, 56, of Swords Creek, died at an area hospital due to his injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to VSP.

    The crash remains under investigation.
