For New Jersey residents the Atlantic hurricane season starts on June 1 and ends November 30.

The most active month for hurricanes or tropical storms is September, while the least active month is May globally, according to NOAA.

So far, there have been 1,727 tropical cyclones of at least tropical storm intensity, 960 at hurricane intensity, and 333 at major hurricane intensity within the Atlantic Ocean.

This year experts predict an "extremely active" hurricane season, according to USA TODAY.

While Hurricane Beryl became a category 5 hurricane, the path has yet to hit the U.S.
