7 Country Songs That Should’ve Made ‘Twisters: The Album’ Soundtrack

For country music fans in particular, 'Twisters: The Album' is one of the most anticipated soundtracks for a movie in a long time. Now let me first admit that I hadn't seen the original Twisters movie until just a few weeks ago, but with the new movie coming out and this stacked soundtrack, I had to check it out.
The new soundtrack features thirty-something artists, which is insane thinking about the logistics of fitting that many songs into a movie alone. And while I'm stoked for the new music by some of my favorites (Tyler Childers, The Red Clay Strays, Tyler Halverson, and Flatland Cavalry), I can't help but notice that there were a few misses. Granted, the album appears to mostly feature songs that are original to the movie, but who's to say that they couldn't have some old favorites. Let's start with the obvious:

    1. "Tornado Warning" - Turnpike Troubadours

The fact that Turnpike was left out of this album all together is a huge swing and a miss, let alone the fact that they have a song titled "Tornado Warning." The Oklahoma natives' sound would have been impeccable to set the scene for the Sooner State. But "Tornado Warning" specifically paints a movie on its own. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jff620V8QUQ

    2. "Twister" - Koe Wetzel

Now, the name says it all. While not released yet, the preview posted on Koe's YouTube sounds like a perfect fit. With the time frame of Koe's album and the Twisters' album being released, it really makes you question why it seriously didn't make the album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcjBfkr4j0I

    3. "Met The Devil in Oklahoma" - Josh Meloy

Another Oklahoma man whose sound is just a bit eerie in this song. The mention of the state itself fits right in with the rest of the other song titles. Then using the devil as a metaphor for a tornado could have been chef's kiss. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mEYgfTN1Po

    4. "Close Encounters" - Treaty Oak Revival

It may not be the most popular Treaty Oak song, but "Close Encounters" is severely underrated. The song talks about seeing things you can't explain. A dang tornado is pretty difficult to wrap your head around, and in the movie, I'm sure they will have plenty of close encounters with some. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR8lGuokU0M

    5. "Running" - Whiskey Myers

Honestly this is one of my favorite Whiskey Myers songs to blast with the windows down. I envision this so casually playing in one of (what imagine) many scenes where they're running from high speed whirlwinds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecEBKjGe2Hw

    6. "Disaster" - Red Clay Strays

Now, I know Red Clay Strays is already included on the soundtrack, but "Disaster" would've been too perfect. If you haven't seen RCS live, you may not know the song but it is one they've been playing at shows for quite a while that is literally about disaster striking again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHSduisU8IA

    7. "Where We Belong" - Southall

From another group of Okies.. this is the song I imagine ending the movie. It's such an "I'm at peace" kind of song. The music video even has the band blowing in the wind in what I'm sure is a very similar setting to the movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liD3q6dzKRc I think the album will still be a great 9.5/10, but any of these picks could have replaced a few of the less than stellar choices on the soundtrack (you all know who I'm talking about) to make it a perfect 10/10. Luckily, we don't have to wait until July 19th for the whole album as a handful of singles have already been released: "Song While You're Away" - Tyler Childers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_2J7uVD8_Q&pp=ygUOdHlsZXIgY2hpbGRlcnM%3D
