Hatch — the baby gear brand known for their beloved sound machines and sleep products for babies ( … and adults who want to catch some more Z’s!) — just recalled the power adapters that were sold alongside some of their Rest 1st Generation sound machines. According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the plastic “housing” that surrounds the AC power adapters could come off when someone pulls the plug from the power outlet. That would then leave the power prongs exposed, making it a shock hazard.

Hatch received 19 reports of the plastic coming off, two of which included the consumer experiencing a minor electrical shock when using the product. Per the CPSC announcement , the recall impacts nearly 920 thousand units sold in the United States and more than 44 thousand sold in Canada. The recalled adapters have model number CYAP05 050100U on the prong side (see below).

Any parent or caregiver (or general consumer) who has a Rest 1st Generation sound machine that includes the recalled power adapter should contact Hatch at recall@hatch.co for a free replacement power adapter.

“Consumers should unplug the cord, cut the cord on the recalled power adapter, take a photo of the adapter showing the model number and the cut cord, upload the photo, and provide their name and mailing address at www.hatch.co/adapterrecall ,” the announcement also said. “Hatch is contacting all registered owners directly.”

In order for a recall to happen, the company has to agree that their product is a threat and pull them from shelves. This recall does not include all Hatch products and shouldn’t be an indication that all their products are dangerous. Rather, it can be seen as a signal that the company is taking injury reports and consumer safety seriously.
