'My daughter had a playdate - I charged her friend's parents $15 for the food and toys'

A mom claims parents should cover the costs of their child's playdate . TikTok user @shay.nanigans87 claims parents should send the hosting family money when two kids have a playdate.

“Can we normalize sending the other family money for playdates?” she said in the clip.

Her daughter recently had a friend over, and the two spent time coloring, playing with dolls and drawing with sidewalk chalk. When the gathering was over, she sent a text to the other mom asking to share the expenses.

In the text to the other mom, she wrote: “Thanks for letting Jamie play today, please help out with your share of the expenses for the play date totaling $15 via Venmo! Let’s do it again soon!”

She clarified she can’t keep hosting playdates because of how expensive it is, and the monetary obligation shouldn’t be forced on one parent. The other mom responded, “Expenses?”

The user broke down the total cost. She used chalk ($1), applesauce ($1), fruit ($1), three juice boxes ($2) and yogurt ($1). She also sat on the couch which caused wear and tear ($1), broke a doll ($5) and took three trips to the bathroom ($3).

Without responding, the other mom , named Malissa, sent her the $15. The user took a screenshot of the Venmo account and included it in the video. In the comments, people expressed their outrage over the situation.

One user said: “I’d send you the $15 then never speak to you again.”

“I’d be very uncomfortable if the person hosting a playdate kept track of how many times my kid needed to use the restroom,” another wrote.

A person cried: “$1 for sitting on the couch is outrageous.”

“If I couldn't afford to host a playdate, then I simply wouldn't invite. Instead, meet at a park and bring your own snacks.”

In a follow up video, she clarified that she is a “rage baiter.” Rage baiting is a method of receiving engagement on social media by instigating anger. Users will intentionally do things to make people mad in order to make their videos go viral.

She said that she made up that entire scenario and even created a Venmo account with a fake name that goes to her bank account.

Now, people are sending money to the “other mother,” who is actually her.

She laughed, saying: “I didn’t think that people would be sending money to the person, Malissa, that they think that I charged money for her daughter to come over.”
