'I'm demanding other parents pay me when their kids come to my house for playdates'

A mother has controversially suggested that when children have playdates , parents should share the hosting expenses .

Speaking on TikTok, user @shay.nanigans87 asked her followers: "Can we normalize sending the other family money for playdates?"

She explained this notion was birthed from her daughter's recent playdate where they enjoyed activities such as colouring and drawing with sidewalk chalk. After the gathering, she requested the other mum to share the costs through a text.

The text read: "Thanks for letting Jamie play today, please help out with your share of the expenses for the play date totaling $15 via Venmo! Let's do it again soon! ".

Unable to bear all the costs alone, due to the frequency of these playdates, she felt the expenses should not be solely burdening one parent. The other mum responded: "Expenses?"

The woman provided her with a breakdown of the expenses from the day which included the cost of chalk, applesauce, fruit, juice boxes, yoghurt and even factored in loo usage and wear and tear of furniture!

Without submitting a reply, Malissa promptly transferred the requested $15 via Venmo, much to the woman's satisfaction. However, this incident attracted criticism online with one individual commenting: "I'd send you the $15 then never speak to you again."

"I'd be very uncomfortable if the person hosting a playdate kept track of how many times my kid needed to use the restroom," another wrote.

A person exclaimed: "$1 for sitting on the couch is outrageous."

"If I couldn't afford to host a playdate, then I simply wouldn't invite. Instead, meet at a park and bring your own snacks."

In a subsequent video, she revealed that she is a "rage baiter."

Rage baiting is a tactic used to garner engagement on social media by provoking anger. Individuals will deliberately provoke others to incite rage and make their content go viral.

She admitted that she concocted the whole story and even set up a Venmo account under a fictitious name that links to her bank account.

Now, individuals are transferring funds to the "other mother," who is in fact herself.

She chuckled as she confessed: "I didn't think that people would be sending money to the person, Malissa, that they think that I charged money for her daughter to come over."
