Here’s a look at some cars that will cost commuters the most, thanks to factors such as depreciation, maintenance, gas mileage and insurance.

    Nissan Altima

The Nissan Altima may not be your best option if you’re a daily commuter. In fact, it made the CarEdge list for most expensive cars to drive. According to the list, the five-year cost to own the Altima is $30,847. The total includes depreciation, insurance premiums, maintenance, repairs, loan interest and fuel costs.

    Kia Soul

This may be another vehicle to avoid if you have a lengthy daily commute. CarEdge listed the KIA Soul among the most expensive cars to own. The five-year cost to own here is $24,963. This includes a total of $5,230 in depreciation and $6,105 in fuel costs over five years. One positive side of smaller vehicles like the Soul is the ability to more easily park it in garages and street spots.

    Chevrolet Malibu

Get ready to pay a pretty good amount as a commuter if you drive a Chevrolet Malibu. It came out just a bit better than the Altima on the CarEdge list of most expensive cars. The five-year cost for the Malibu is $28,680. That includes just under $1,400 in annual fuel costs and about $1,700 annually for maintenance and repair costs.

    Ford F-150 Raptor

It may be no surprise this beefy option is not the best when it comes to cheap commuting. In fact, Zutobi ranked it the most expensive to own and operate in 2024. Based only on annual fuel and insurance costs, the Raptor will set you back about $7,700 each year.

    GMC Sierra

On Zutobi’s list, the GMC Sierra follows closely behind the Raptor for most expensive to own and operate. The annual cost here is about $7,300 just for fuel and insurance Overall, the Zutobi list showed that trucks and SUVs continue to cost a lot of money to drive.
