Harrisburg, Pa. — Last week, the Pa. House advanced a bill that would greatly expand Sunday hunting in the state.

According to the Associated Press , the House voted 129-73 to send a bipartisan bill to the Pa. Senate that would allow Sunday hunting for five years — excluding Pennsylvania's 100 state parks.

The current law passed almost five years ago, permits Sunday hunting on three days: once during rifle deer season, once during archery deer season, and a last Sunday at the Game Commission’s discretion.

House Bill 2106 would allow hunting on Sundays until June 2029. Allegheny County Democratic Rep. Mandy Steele sponsors the bill.

According to AP , Steele stated Sunday hunting would help maintain deer population, help farmers and their crops, and bring families closer together,

Since the 19th century, there has been a law prohibiting hunting for deer, bear, and turkey on Sundays, but there are exceptions for crow, fox, and coyote.
