Rayan Ait-Nouri transfer latest: Wolves' price tag and Liverpool's hidden advantage

Liverpool are reportedly interested in bringing Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri to Anfield this summer.

Last term, the Reds were without first-team regular Andy Robertson for a significant length of time after the Scotsman dislocated his shoulder in October. While Liverpool did not lose a Premier League game during Robertson's stint on the sidelines, with Kostas Tsimikas and Joe Gomez filling in for the absent Scotsman, the Reds appear keen to bring in stronger cover at left-back.

Such a move would allow Liverpool to keep Gomez as a center-back, and likely stick with the current four options of the England international, Virgil van Dijk , Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah , rather than signing a big name defender.

One of the players the Reds has been heavily linked to is Ait-Nouri. The Wolves defender who impressed last season is reportedly available for $48m (£38.2m/€45m) thanks to a release fee clause in his contract.

Last week, reports from Algeria claimed the 23-year-old was ready to leave Wolves this summer, with Liverpool leading the way for his signature.

And those links with a move to Liverpool do not seem to have disappeared. Speaking to Anfield Index, journalist David Lynch pointed out the Reds have an excellent relationship with Ait-Nouri's representatives - Jorge Mendes' Gestifute agency.

Liverpool stars Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota are already represented by Mendes' agency, while ex-Reds star Fabinho is also a client.

Bringing in Ait-Nouri would likely see Liverpool look to build up from the back with two defenders rather having one of their full-backs coming inside to form a three.

Last season at Wolves, the Algerian was used all up the left-hand flank with Gary O'Neil giving the defender license to go forward when needed. He made 38 appearances in all competitions last term, scoring three goals and registering two assists.

Any move for Ait-Nouri would also likely see the end of Tsimikas' time at Anfield too, with the Greek defender likely to depart this summer.
