Novak Djokovic, after his straight-sets victory over Vit Kopriva in the first round, had some kind words for Andy Murray and Nick Kyrgios , two tennis stars who were absent from this year's Wimbledon singles draw due to injuries .

Djokovic made a triumphant return to professional tennis after being forced to withdraw from the French Open. He expressed his support for his fellow tennis players who have been battling with injuries.

The seven-time SW19 champion underwent surgery after tearing his meniscus at Roland Garros but accelerated his recovery process to participate in Wimbledon, despite previously admitting that he was taking a risk by doing so.

After his win, the Serbian player turned to Kyrgios, who was commentating on the match for ESPN, and said: "I've been fortunate comparing myself to other 37 year olds. I had injuries like anybody else but they come and go. It's part of what you do. You just have to accept it and embrace it."

"I think Nick Kyrgios is in the commentary box... He's been struggling a lot with injuries. Talking about major injuries he's had a few. I've been very fortunate to not be away from tennis for long."

"As an athlete I empathise with Nick and anyone who's struggling. You almost feel helpless at times that something isn't allowing you to come back to what you love most and you're unable to do your profession for years."

Djokovic, who made a comeback to Wimbledon just 27 days after undergoing knee surgery, then expressed his thoughts on Murray, who had to withdraw from the singles competition on the day of his match.

Murray is considering teaming up with his brother Jamie for doubles, yet he felt compelled to say sorry to his supporters, admitting that pulling out was the "right decision" following his own surgery on a spinal cyst.

"Andy Murray withdrawing is a great blow to the tournament," Djokovic remarked, earning applause from the Centre Court audience in support of the British star. "Great respect to him. All he's done in this tournament... In this sport."

"I hope he'll be able to finish his career on his terms. I heard he's going to play doubles. Hopefully he'll give it another shot next year in singles. I just send him my best... it's worth acknowledging all these athletes that are struggling."
