Kevin Feige Reveals New Details From Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Audition

Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will return to movie theaters with Ryan Reynolds later this month in the latest romp from Marvel, Deadpool & Wolverine , which features the two titular heroes coming together despite their differences to combat a common enemy.

While Jackman will always be this generation's Logan, he wasn't the frontrunner for the role. It was Dougray Scott who landed Wolverine but ultimately had to drop out to focus on wrapping Mission: Impossible 2 , meaning Jackman unknowingly stepped in last minute.

Kevin Feige told Entertainment Weekly in a new interview, "There was a scramble to get our Wolverine". The Marvel Studios President told EW that Lauren Shuler Donner "was very excited about this Australian guy, who had been rejected initially". Feige cited one of the reasons for Jackman's initial rejection being "he was too tall."

So when Jackman left an audition with Bryan Singer feeling like he'd done a terrible job, Feige said he "didn't want to just send [Jackman] out into the cold" and decided to take the actor to dinner.

"'Kevin, we all know I'm not getting the part. You don't have to do dinner,'" Jackman said.

Yet here we are in 2024 seeing Hugh Jackman's Wolverine starring opposite Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool.
