The Marvel What if… ? Final Season 3 “Feels Like The Completion of a Trilogy”

Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, has spoken out about the final What if… ? season and says it will be very fulfilling for Uatu The Watcher.

During an episode of the Official Marvel Podcast, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, made a comment that may allay any fears fans may have about the third and final season of Marvel’s What if… series. After all, he said, the third season “feels like the conclusion of a trilogy.”

Winderbaum says “It takes us to places that you’d never expect. It goes beyond the first two seasons in its exploration of the multiverse. It pulls in characters that are very unexpected, and has what I think is an extremely moving and very fulfilling culmination for Uatu the Watcher.”

Interestingly enough, the first animated series set within the MCU saw the first iteration of Captain Carter, the First Avenger (in that universe), who was bridged to the live-action films and ultimately met their fate (or a version of the character because ‘multiverses’) at the hands of the Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness so the ending may have broader ramifications for the current live-action MCU. The storyline outlined in What if… ? appeared in the second Doctor Strange MCU film, and the film explored the storyline as set in the animated series as something that happened in a separate timeline.

This new podcast episode assures fans that the third and final season of What if… ? will end conclusively, although the show has a question mark at the end of the title. Uatu The Watcher (voiced by Jeffrey Wright ) has taken fans through the journey of the What if… ? multiverse, and that journey is set to end in season three.

Marvel’s original comic book run of the stories told in the animated series, also called What if… ? has an original run from 1977-1984 and many of the stories explored in the comics — including Daredevil -based stories — haven’t been explored yet. So, the third season ending with a conclusion for Uatu the Watcher (who was also the narrator for the comic series) could stop the rest of the comic series from seeing a television adaptation in the future, even though characters like Daredevil have been introduced to the broader MCU.

Either way, fans can catch up on Marvel’s What if… series on Disney+. At the time of writing, there is no release date or teaser for the third season of the series.
