The song in its original form. Today, Ben Burgess released the demo of "Whiskey Glasses," which of course was a massive hit for superstar Morgan Wallen in 2018 and even more so in the summer of 2019. Ben, who was formerly on Morgan's current label Big Loud, wrote it with Kevin Kadish, and Morgan included it as third single on his 2018 studio album
If I Know Me , which is honestly still my favorite Morgan Wallen album, though that may be the hot take of the century among his die hard fans and I digress... "Whiskey Glasses" became a #1 hit on the U.S. Billboard Country Airplay in June of 2019, and has since been certified 9× Platinum by the RIAA. In all likelihood, it will also become just the ninth country song to be certified Diamond sometime this year (meaning it will have sold over 10 million copies). Of course, "Whiskey Glasses" is still played on the radio frequently, and while Morgan certainly had success with songs like "Up Down" before this, this one really put him into another stratosphere in terms of commercial success and kickstarting what has already been a very successful career. And for those who may not be familiar, a demo is basically just the "rough draft" or sample version of a song (usually done by the writers if the artist themselves aren't involved) that gets sent to musicians and publishers to give an idea of what the song should sound like, so they can decide if they want to cut it or not. This demo is really not all that far off from the final studio cut so many fans know and love (which isn't always the case), though maybe a bit twangier in terms of the production in the chorus. If you're a music nerd like me, it's neat to hear the first version of what became such a massive hit. I was in Nashville the summer it went #1 and I think it was possibly the only song I heard on Broadway the entire time. And when you listen to this, it's easy to see why Morgan decided to cut it and how it became the juggernaut that it did...
