    Melanie Leupolz joins Real Madrid after Chelsea departure

    Melanie Leupolz has left Chelsea to join Real Madrid .

    The German spent four seasons at Chelsea, signing for the Blues in March 2020 after six years at Bayern Munich.

    The 30-year-old won four straight league titles, three FA Cups, a League Cup and a Community Shield during a trophy-laden four-year stay at Chelsea.

    She will now join Real Madrid, who finished second, behind Barcelona, in the Spanish league last season for the second successive campaign.

    Leupolz, who won a gold medal at the 2016 Olympics, retired from international football after the 2023 World Cup, just shy of a year after she look a few months out at Chelsea to give birth. She retired from Germany duty with 13 goals from 79 caps, making her debut back in 2013.

    She scored against Manchester United on the final day of the WSL season last term as Chelsea won one final league title before Emma Hayes departed to become US manager.

    Leupolz began her senior career at Freiburg before joining Bayern in 2014.
