INDIANAPOLIS — National Fried Chicken Day is July 6 so celebrate by taking a bite of flavor at a local Indy joint named by Yelp Elites as the best fried chicken in Indiana.

The secret is out! Shani’s Secret Chicken, located at 4930 Lafayette Road on the city’s northwest side, was named as Indiana’s representative on a list of “all-time best fried chicken in every state,” according to a list compiled by Yelp Elites.

Shani’s Secret Chicken shares a storefront with Chapati, according to their website , and offers “halal fusion fried chicken.” Shani’s menu boasts whole chickens along with boneless tenders, a chicken sandwich and selections of thighs, wings, legs and breasts.

Yelp reviewers rave about Shani’s Secret Chicken, which has racked up a 4.4 average review on Yelp with most reviewers giving Shani’s a perfect five out of five.

“It lived up to the hype,” Yelp reviewer Marci I. wrote. “The chicken was fresh and made to order and you can tell. It was piping hot when he brought it to our table.”

“The owners clearly are masters at making great food,” said Yelp reviewer Niki B.

Shani’s is open every day but Tuesday, opening at 11 a.m. and closing at 9 or 9:30 p.m. The sign outside might read Chapati, but the best kept secret in Indy is waiting just inside.
