For the seven young members of YG Entertainment’s BABYMONSTER , moving through the world as K-pop idols is still a somewhat new undertaking. Despite the months or years of training aspiring artists receive before debuting, BABYMONSTER officially arrived on the scene just a few months ago, in April 2024. This means that gearing up for their new release, “FOREVER,” marked one of their first official “comebacks.”

“It’s a very catchy song fit for summer, so I hope everyone will give it a listen,” says RUKA. “‘FOREVER’ definitely has a brighter vibe compared to our previous songs, making it perfect for the summertime,” confirms CHIQUITA.

This song is so fun — I really enjoy the pre-chorus portion. What do you all think are some of the key points of the track?

RUKA : I think the key points of our new single, “FOREVER,” are its bright, energetic rhythm and the hip-hop vibe of the rap in the second verse. It’s a very catchy song fit for summer, so I hope everyone will give it a listen!

CHIQUITA : “FOREVER” definitely has a brighter vibe compared to our previous songs, making it perfect for the summertime. Personally, I find the chorus very catchy, so please give it a lot of love!

The energy is so high throughout, and the key change levels it up. How did you approach this one in the studio?

RAMI : I tried my best to capture the mood of the song during the recording stages. I was a bit concerned about hitting the higher notes after the key change, but I think it turned out great.

RORA : I paid the most attention to the chorus and bridge! Personally, I dedicated a lot of time to perfecting the chorus, re-recording it several times. As for the bridge, I distinctly remember concentrating on the lyrics to convey the dreamy vibe of the song.

What about when it came time for choreography and dance practice? What stood out about working on this release in particular?

ASA : The choreography for this song has a lot of intricate details, so it took me some time to memorize it, but it’s incredibly fun to dance to. The most exciting part for me is the section at the end where we all run in a circle.

PHARITA : When we first started learning the choreography, I immediately noticed it was quite different from our previous songs. What stood out to me the most was the bright and energetic chorus. I’m confident our fans will have a blast dancing along with us!

There’s some serious vocal requirements on “FOREVER,” especially when it comes to belting. What efforts did you make to achieve these results?

AHYEON : I focused on delivering the energy of the song, especially since I sing a lot of the high notes. I really placed an emphasis on making sure I could deliver those notes to the best of my ability. I also really focused on taking care of my throat.

RAMI : I focused extensively on bringing the energy during the belting parts. Throughout the recording process, I re-recorded my parts several times to achieve the best possible result.

How do you think this track pushes BABYMONSTER towards a new chapter? What’s exciting to you about this song?

AHYEON : I believe “FOREVER” truly captures BABYMONSTER’s refreshing charms. We hope it becomes a new summer anthem for our fans to enjoy, and we’re really looking forward to their reactions!

RUKA : We’re incredibly excited about this release because it’s something entirely new for us. As our first summer song, we’re eagerly anticipating our fans’ reactions! The music video showcases various aspects of us, from cute to cool, so we believe our fans will love it!

Have there been any TV shows or movies that have inspired you lately?

PHARITA & ASA : We loved Inside Out 2 ! Watching the first movie as children and waiting several years for the sequel made us feel like we grew up alongside the characters. The movie was well thought out, and we particularly loved the new emotions, especially Embarrassment.

What else are you looking forward to here in 2024? Feel free to also share a message to the fans or anything we haven’t discussed!

RORA : I can’t believe we’re already halfway through 2024. Performing in front of our fans for the first time and holding our fan meetings have taught us so much. Each moment has filled us with immense gratitude. While we may not be able to meet every single one of you, we hope that through our music, our love reaches all of our fans around the world. We’ll continue to show more sides of us so please look forward to it. We are forever grateful and love each and every one of you!
