Does your pantry never seem big enough to hold all your groceries? Maybe it's constantly cluttered, and you'd give anything for just an extra foot or so of organizational space. Well, you might be in luck because if you're a homeowner, you can always try this drywall 'hack' from TikTok creator Astin Hancock to add space to your kitchen pantry.

Why Is It Important To Know What Is Behind Your Drywall?

First of all, this hack does involve cutting into your drywall , so the first step in this process is making sure that doing so is safe for you and won't create any structural issues in your home. Look for a wall that is free of any electric cords or plumbing. Safety first, folks! We don’t want any unplanned electrical shows or water fountains in the kitchen.

Next, measure how big you want your added space to be. You can add a lot of vertical space using this hack, so don't be afraid to measure out a space that is four or even five feet tall. Dream big! The more space, the better, right?

After you’ve planned it all out, it’s time to get physical and cut into the drywall in a large vertical rectangle. You will also want to cut out the cross beam, or stud, to make space for everything, which means the studs around it should be left untouched. Then, add a sturdy frame with two-by-fours and attach that to the studs on either side of the one you cut.

Once that's done, go outside and create another frame that will fit inside the larger frame you've built and screwed into the drywall. To add more useable space, add shelving as well. Rather than make a back for this shelf frame, Astin added some pole wrap she had on hand to add a touch of something extra to the space that wouldn’t take up too much room. Why not add a bit of style while you’re at it, right?

This inner frame then goes smoothly into the outer one in the drywall, and the last thing you need to do is screw it into place so it doesn’t move around and add framing boards all around, so it looks built-in . Voilà! You’ve now got yourself a pantry space that feels bigger and is more organized. It’s like pantry magic, but with a bit of elbow grease and creativity!
