Although defending European champion Italy was bounced in the Round of 16, most of the continent’s top powers are among the final eight teams in the fight to win Euro 2024, setting up brilliant quarterfinals.

The knockout stage has featured only two upsets thus far, coming in the first Round of 16 match and the most recent one.

Switzerland stunned the listless Italians 2-0 to get the party started, while Turkiye rode a pair of unlikely goals from defender Merih Demiral and an incredible late save from goalie Mert Gunok to a 2-1 conquest of Austria. Those nations are now poised to become Euro 2024 Cinderellas as they’ve once again been cast in underdog roles.

Odds to win Euro 2024: England, Spain top betting board

England, co-favorites with France when Euro 2024 began, remains a favorite, but Spain has moved up the odds board since it is the lone team with four victories in four matches and sports a plus-eight goal differential (9-1). Host Germany and the French are also highly regarded. Turkiye is by far the biggest longshot.

Here are moneylines, spreads and totals from top sportsbooks, plus betting analysis, for the four quarterfinal matches set for Friday and Saturday

    Germany vs. Spain

The Euro 2024 hosts are back in Stuttgart, where they defeated Hungary 2-0 on June 19. Germany owns a tourney-best +9 goal differential (10-1) after an impressive 2-0 victory over Denmark in the Round of 16. 21-year-old Bayern Munich forward Jamal Musiala has a team-high three goals and has excelled throughout.

These nations saw clubs square off in the Champions League final with La Liga winners Real Madrid defeating Borussia Dortmund. That team’s top defender, Dani Carvajal, is part of Spain’s starting 11 after scoring in Real’s 2-0 win and will play a large role here. Germany, which hasn’t defeated La Furia Roja since a friendly in late 2014, will hope being on home soil will make a difference.

These teams have played four other times over the past decade, resulting in three 1-1 draws, including one in World Cup qualifying in their last matchup in late 2022. Spain’s most recent was a 6-0 win in Sevilla in late 2020, one of the worst defeats in German National Team history. Both head coaches will have their entire star-studded rosters available to them and have major decisions to make regarding who to deploy.

    France vs. Portugal

Although the French were better than neighboring Belgium throughout most of its Round of 16 match, they failed to break through until late substitute Randal Kolo Muani forced an own goal in the 85th minute for a 1-0 win. Kylian Mbappe had his disruptive moments, while keeper Mike Maignan made a few key saves.

The Portuguese were ripe for an upset at the hands of Slovenia and were awarded a dubious penalty that Cristiano Ronaldo wasted, but ultimately survived in PKs, 3-0. Ronaldo got them off to a strong start, and goalie Diogo Costa saved all three of the opposition’s attempts.

These nations played to a 2-2 draw in the group stages of the last Euros in 2021, as three penalties were awarded in a match played in Budapest, Hungary. The Portuguese memorably won the 2016 Euros by beating Les Blues in the final in Stade de France 1-0 in extra time. The French last defeated Portugal in 2020 (1-0) in a Nations League match and are 19-6-3 in all-time matches. Midfielder Adrien Rabiot joins Portugal striker Rafael Leao in being sidelined for this match due to yellow card accumulation.

    England vs. Switzerland

Jude Bellingham rescued England from defeat against Slovakia through a brilliant stoppage-time goal that sent the Round of 16 match to overtime at 1-1. Harry Kane added to his tally as England’s all-time goal scorer early in the extra session to help the Three Lions avoid a massive upset, but the team’s form remains disappointing.

The Swiss get back key wingback Silvan Widmer after an impressive performance against Italy and didn’t pick up a single yellow card, so coach Murat Yakin will have everyone available. Switzerland has scored in the first half of all four matches and hasn’t lost, posting victories over the Magyars and Azzuri while playing Germany and Scotland to 1-1 draws in Group A play.

England has major defensive concerns due to numerous players being banged up and have had problems generating goals since Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka have looked uncomfortable in their roles.

Manager Gareth Southgate has to make due without defender Marc Guehi as he aims to continue England’s dominance of the Swiss to advance to the semis. In 31 all-time matches, England has lost just three times, posting 22 wins, six draws and an 83-24 goal advantage. Kane scored the winner via PK the last time these sides met in a 2-1 friendly at Wembley in March 2022.

    Netherlands vs. Turkiye

Despite missing captain Hakan Calhanoglu, the Turks took down Austria and can match their best finish in a European Championship with another upset here. Head coach Vincenzo Montella must press forward without a couple of key players due to yellow card accumulation, and Demiral, hero of the Round of 16 win, is being investigated by UEFA over one of his goal celebrations and could be suspended. Calhanoglu and defender Samet Akaydin are back in the fold for this quarterfinal against a Dutch side the Turks have an all-time 4-6-4 record against.

The Netherlands rolled to a 3-0 win over Romania in arguably the most dominant Round of 16 effort, getting a brace from second-half substitute Donyell Malen. Pressing forward without injured star playmaker Frenkie de Jong, who was unable to participate in this tournament, the Dutch bounced back from a 3-2 loss to Austria with its strongest performance and are favored after beating the Turks 6-1 the last time these sides met in a World Cup qualifier in Amsterdam in 2021. Turkiye had won earlier that year in Istanbul 4-2, so these teams have a recent history of high-scoring contests.
