On Saturday, June 15, 2024, fifty men at Watha Chapel Missionary Baptist Church received valuable medical advice and other lifesaving information.

Katrina Hooks, a member of Duplin County Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. professionally facilitated a health care forum conveying the importance of early detection and regular health screenings for colon cancer and prostate cancer. She adamantly stressed how crucial screenings are to detect the disease early, and reiterated they are the tools essential for maintaining men’s good health.

According to Hooks, the screenings detect cancer early when it is most treatable and can significantly improve the chances of the individuals and their lives by enabling early intervention and effective management of common cancers. In addition, Ms. Hooks encouraged the men to discuss their personal individual health risk factors with their healthcare providers to determine the appropriate screenings.

Ms. Hooks has an extensive background with intensive care unit (ICU) nursing and is presently employed with World Wide Travel Staffing as a psychiatric mental health travel nurse. She understands the importance of preventative health care.

The men were so appreciative of the valuable information provided by Ms. Hooks. She has been invited to return to the church in October to continue this discourse which is essential to effectively manage men’s health appropriately.
