MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — People who are signed up for an emergency alert system in Macon County will be getting test messages from that system next week.

The Macon County Emergency Telephone System Board (ETSB) will be conducting its annual test on Wednesday, July 11, at 11 a.m. Landline telephones are automatically used in the system, while people will only receive alerts via cell phone if they signed up online.

High-risk lead exposure ZIP codes added to 11 Central IL counties: IDPH

Decatur, Forsyth, Harristown, Long Creek, Maroa, Mt. Zion, Oreana and Warrensburg all offer the service to provide potentially lifesaving information. The system can be used for situations like severe weather, chemical leaks and active shooters. The system can also provide information for one’s convenience, such as details about boil orders, road closures and construction.

If people are already signed up for the service, they are advised to verify that their contact information is up to date. If they are signed up and don’t receive an alert on July 10, they should correct their contact information.

People can sign up for the system by clicking here .
