SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. ( WKRG ) — CareerSource ESCAROSA and Santa Rosa Economic Development teamed up for the Honoring Our Heroes Career Fair.

Officials say the event, aimed to recognize all military, veterans, and spouses looking for employment is important given the rates of unemployment for veterans.

Recorded in 2023, 2.8% of Florida’s veterans were unemployed. Nationally, in May of 2024, the percentage recorded for unemployed veterans was 2.9%.

“We’ve done an amazing job helping job seekers get connected with employers,” said Wakinme Long, Job & Benefits Administrator for the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. “It’s been great helping people get back on their feet, getting them the resources they need to become more self-sufficient in helping them and their families succeed.”

Over 30 companies were on site, looking to recruit the next wave of employees. To help jump-start their careers, participants were encouraged to bring at least 10 copies of their resume and to dress business professionally.

Jobseekers were welcomed at 10 a.m., with the event running until 2 p.m.

Amy Mouler with Teen Hughes Real Estate Group said she had already spoken to over 30 people in just the first two hours.

“A lot of different companies are out here which is wonderful,” said Mouler. “We’re glad to be here and we hope to be here for the next one.”

Although the event was aimed at those who have served, the career fair encouraged members of the community to stop by as well.
