MLB All-Star Game jerseys: Why baseball fans are criticizing 'brutal' uniforms for Midsummer Classic

Stop me if you've heard this before, but MLB has a uniform controversy on its hands.

This time, the league is drawing criticism for the jerseys it plans on using at the 2024 All-Star Game. In short, it doesn't appear that fans like them.

The first image of an All-Star jersey for 2024 was leaked by SNY Yankees and the "Talkin' Baseball" account on X (formerly Twitter) Wednesday. It provided a sneak peek at what Juan Soto's jersey would look like, complete with red sleeves and lettering over a dirty, tan-looking background.

Below is a look at the potential American League uniform.

MLB fans immediately let the league know they hoped the posting was a joke. Many weren't pleased with how the uniforms looked, from the strange choice of base coloring to the lack of trim around the letters and numbers to make them pop.

As such, they weighed in on social media platforms to express their displease — and, of course, crack jokes at MLB's expense.

Here are some of the most notable responses:

This criticism isn't anything new for MLB. Many fans have made it known they'd like to see the league return to the format that previously saw each player wear his own team's jersey. The league hasn't budged, likely because it hopes to sell unique All-Star Game jerseys each year.

MLB also dealt with uniform issues early in its 2024 season. Many players complained about the team's jerseys and pants being see-through while fans were displeased with the smaller lettering on the back of them.

The league worked to correct some of those issues with Nike and Fanatics, the league's new jersey manufacturer and distributor combination. The All-Star uniforms will create more questions for the brands, however.

It doesn't seem likely MLB will change its All-Star jerseys just a couple of weeks before the game. Even so, another lackluster uniform reveal may have the league rethinking its jersey-creation strategy as it looks to have unique apparel available for some of its biggest in-season events.
