Paige Spiranac Plans to Celebrate July 4th With Competitive Hot Dog Eating

Well, her first foray into competitive eating may not have gone as smoothly as she hoped, but Paige Spiranac wants to see how many hot dogs she can house on this Fourth of July holiday.

The former golf pro turned golf influencer recently made a bid to replace Joey Chestnut in the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, after organizers banned the 16-time champion over a deal he made with Impossible Foods to stump for the brand's newly-launched plant-based hot dog. Unfortunately, Spiranac learned the hard way that competitive eating is not as easy as the pros evidently make it look, managing to put away only six hot dogs in the space of 10 minutes.

However, she's not letting a poor first showing stop her, as she revealed on social media on Tuesday night. "I’m doing it. I’m really doing it," the 31-year-old wrote. "Attempting to see how many hotdogs I can eat in 10 minutes again this year. What’s your guess?"

While there were naturally some skeptics in her mentions (with one person artlessly floating the "hawk tuah" method), at least the king himself has faith in Spiranac. "At least 10!! Don't stop eating until the job is done!!" Chestnut himself replied, to which she responded: "Teach me your ways!"

Spiranac documented her first attempt from July 4, 2023 in a five-minute time elapsed video posted on June 12. "I'm so nervous. OK, so I heard you take them out, and you eat them together," she said in the beginning of the clip. After initially trying to down them two at a time, she remembered that you're supposed to use water to help them go down easier.

"Low-key, I thought I could get like 10, this is way harder than I thought it would be," she admitted at the 5:30 mark.

"OK, that sucked. That actually sucked," she summed up her attempt when all was said and done, noting that even the smell of hot dogs was making her gag.

    Better luck this year?
