The summer can be an extra fun time to be a parent...but it can also be extra exhausting. There are lots of hours to fill in a day, and kids have seemingly endless reserves of energy...which is why parents are always trying to find activities that will wear their little ones out! Unfortunately, that's much easier said than done.

In a highly relatable video posted on June 29, a dad hilariously (and accurately!) parodies the experience of taking your kids to the pool in the hopes that they'll "sleep good" that night...only to find that you're the only one who's beat at the end of the day.

"Our only hopeful thought during the exhausting days of summer is that the children will sleep good tonight. But they never do. My kids were at a water park for 8 hours yesterday and still stayed awake 2 hours past their bedtime and woke up at 6 am today," wrote @drumbeatlane . It happens every summer! Commenters knew exactly what this dad was talking about.

"5 kids. Every day I gaslight myself into thinking I'm wearing them down at the water park. I'm the only one who is worn down," wrote Tik Toker.

"You sure would think so! Unfortunately, I have solar powered kids. They just get recharged," wrote Jill Williams.

"And instead they fall asleep on the way home and are up two hours past their bedtime," wrote Carey.

"We spent 7 hours at the pool. All three stayed up until after midnight," wrote namnaq.

If only kids could share some of that energy with their exhausted parents! Of course, even if a trip to the pool doesn't knock your little ones out for the night, the experience is still a beneficial one.

When Should Kids Learn How to Swim?

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)'s HealthyChildren.org, learning to swim is an important skill for kids of all ages, but every child won't be ready to start at the same age. You'll need to consider your "child's emotional maturity, physical and developmental abilities and limitations, and comfort level in the water in mind."

That said, "studies suggest that water survival skills training and swim lessons can help reduce drowning risk for children between ages 1-4. Classes that include both parents and their children also are a good way to introduce good water safety habits and start building swim readiness skills. If your child seems ready, it's a good idea to start lessons now. By their 4th birthday, most children are ready for swim lessons. At this age, they usually can learn basic water survival skills such as floating, treading water and getting to an exit point. By age 5 or 6, most children in swim lessons can master the front crawl."

Even if your child is in swim lessons, you'll still need to be cautious when they're in or around water. Constant supervision is key!
