WWE Files Trademark Application For WCW Pay-Per-View Name

Over the years, WWE has revived multiple former WCW pay-per-view names for special episodes of NXT and premium live events, and now it appears another former name could be about to be resurrected. That is because it has been noted that on July 2, WWE filed an application for the SuperBrawl trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  Obviously, this doesn’t guarantee the name will be used for NXT, but it seems likely, given the use of Halloween Havoc, The Great American Bash, and even ECW’s Heatwave.

SuperBrawl was a noteworthy event in pro wrestling history, making its debut in May 1991, with Ric Flair vs. Tatsumi Fujinami headlining the show. The event would then move to February to coincide with the NFL’s Super Bowl hype, from which it took its name. However, the annual event ended in 2001, and just a month afterward, WWE acquired WCW’s intellectual properties, effectively ending the promotion. Additionally, the name graced WCW’s 1994 Super NES video game, although it was unfavorably reviewed compared to WWF Royal Rumble, released the prior year.
