When babies are hungry, they want fed. And, as they grow, they may even begin anticipating feeding time based on when you're preparing. This is also true for a baby Macaw named Vhager who, at such a young age, already knows when it's mealtime!

On July 2, 2024, Tropical Giggles ( @tropicalgiggles ) shared Vhagar's very important morning routine which includes waiting for mom to mix her formula. Watch the baby's response here!

"Anytime she hears the stirring, she comes to find me," the caption says. The brief 22-second clip begins with a close-up of Mom holding Vhagar's food bowl as she mixes the baby's breakfast. The sweet Macaw, who only hatched 9-10 weeks prior, steadies herself by holding a wing up as she slowly and carefully makes her way to Mom. This little lady doesn't stop for a break until she reaches her destination right in front of Mom—she's on a mission and hungry!

The video has already amassed ore than 16,000 likes and the comment section is filled with complete adoration of the baby bird's journey.

"Too cute how she needs her wings for balance walking lol," one person wrote. "I’ve never thought about what a baby Macaw would look like and I’m not disappointed SO CUTE," another said. "She knows momma’s got the goods and gonna take care of her," another added.

Vhagar is a national treasure and we should protect her at all costs!

    Why Are Macaws Brightly Colored?

As a critically-endangered species with just a few thousand left in the world, Macaws are known for being social and intelligent birds who gather in flocks. We know them mostly by the way they communicate through vocalizations, and some species mimic human speech, as seen in many videos featuring the little smarties.

But it's their colors which are majestic and regal, in vivid hues of blues, yellows, and reds. Their markings are quite the opposite of other species who are colored to blend in their surroundings to avoid predators. Living Coast Discovery Center explains Macaws use their colors as a strategy to stay safe. Not only are they smart, their colors are, too!

"They are trying to trick their predators!" the site says. "Scarlet macaws have a type of coloration known as 'disruptive coloration' which is sued when a predator, for example a large raptor, tries to prey on a scarlet macaw. "The whole flock would fly away together and the colors on their feathers would disrupt the shape of the body of the birds, making it very hard for a predator to focus and catch one."

Color aside, one day Vhagar will have the chatty reaction to food adult Macaws do—and we can't wait to see it!
