Millions of drivers can enjoy free ride home if they party too hard on July 4 – & your car will get back safely with you

MILLIONS of drivers could be towed home for free on July 4 this year in a bid to keep Americans safe.
The Automobile Club Group in Michigan (AAA) is launching a program ahead of the Fourth that aims to keep impaired residents from driving drunk.
This year, the nation turns 248, and every year people drive impaired – causing sometimes fatal accidents Getty To combat impaired driving, the AAA offers free towing during certain times Getty
If anyone feels as though they’re too drunk to drive, the AAA will send a tow truck to move the driver and their vehicle home safely.
The best part is the cost: $0.00.
All a driver would have to do is call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO, give the representative their location and vehicle information, and a driver will promptly arrive.
The program is available from July 3 at 6 pm to July 8 at 6 am to ensure a safe week celebrating the nation’s independence.
The organization, though, does warn drivers that drivers are responsible for their actions, and should plan to celebrate safely.
If you plan to party, moving your vehicle and yourself safely should be a part of that plan.
While the program is free and reliable, spokesperson Adrienne Woodland says it should be Plan B or even C.
“By providing this program, AAA gives drivers no excuse for driving under the influence of drugs , alcohol, or impairing medications,” she told FOX affiliate WSYM .
“Please plan ahead by asking a friend to be your designated driver or use a ride-sharing service. If those plans fall through, you can call Tow to Go and AAA will arrange for a safe ride for you.”
According to the organization’s website , the program is available in Florida, Georgia , Iowa, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.
It’s also available in developed areas of Colorado, North Carolina (Charlotte), and Fort Wayne/South Bend.
“Tow to Go is a cost-free driving service for impaired drivers who don’t have a safe ride alternative,” the site reads.
To make sure the service is more accessible, the service is available to those who don’t pay for a membership.
“On most major holidays , AAA Members and non-members in select service areas can request a confidential tow/ride within 10 miles by calling 1.855.2.TOW2GO.”
Alternative ways to get home if impaired
Driving impaired is not only illegal, it's incredibly dangerous - here are ways the AAA suggests getting home if you've overindulged.
Establish a designated driver (DD). If you’re celebrating with a group, determine who will be responsibly driving the group home. To avoid any irreversible accidents, have the DD collect everyone’s keys at the beginning of the night.
Utilize public transportation. Depending on your location, you might be able to take a bus, monorail, shuttle, or train home. It may come with a fare, but it’s cheaper than a DUI or someone’s life.
Go with ride-sharing. Uber or Lyft are great options. If you’ve never used either service before, create an account and download the app before celebrating. Taxis are also an option.
If you live in FL, GA, IA, MI, ND, NE, TN, WI, CO (Denver), NC (Charlotte) and IN (Fort Wayne/South Bend), you can call AAA’s Tow 2 Go number, (855) 2-TOW-2-GO.
The service has been offered for several years and has helped many drivers.
“AAA has offered its Tow to Go program for 25 years and has assisted more than 25,000 impaired drivers,” the site continued.
If the service isn’t available in your area, other options include Uber or Lyft rides, though it’s important to download the app before celebrating to make sure access is simple.
Public transport is also a viable option, though it may be limited depending on what time you need to get home.
However, it’s crucial to your safety and the safety of those around you to never get behind the wheel of a car when impaired.
