HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — For more than 10 years, Horry County resident Anthony Leggio has flown hundreds of American flags in his yard for the Fourth of July holiday.

Leggio lives in a house off Glenns Bay Road and has a collection of almost 400 flags he puts out every year. He started the tradition back in 2010, when he put his first flag in the ground.

Last year, however, Leggio had to take down his display earlier than expected after some of the flags were stolen. He said it upset him, and if people keep stealing, he’ll keep replacing, and if you want one — just ask.

The flags come in all shapes and sizes. From handhelds to his biggest, 15-by-25-foot “Ole Glory.”

Leggio said when cleaning up from last year’s event, “Ole Glory” accidentally got wrapped around his friend’s truck and tore.

His 11-year-old daughter, Peyton Leggio, confirmed that.

“I know that very big one, the one that hangs from the two trees, got ripped by his friend on accident with his truck,” she said. “The rip was on the top, so, they just took down and started taking everything down.”

Anthony said they raised between $500-600 on a GoFundMe account to replace the giant flag. Peyton named it “Sweet Ole Glory.”

Peyton said the setup process takes about two to three weeks. She also explained who’s in charge of decorating.

“My dad and one of his workers usually do them,” she said. “Sometimes I’ll come home and help with the tiny flags in the ground, but usually it’s him and one of his workers because they have to get the sign truck to hang up the big ones.”

While Anthony said he’s not having a Fourth of July party at his house this year, putting hundreds of flags up in his yard each year is a tradition that he’ll never stop.
