The Wichita County Sheriff's Office warns that some residents are getting fraudulent telephone calls from individuals who claim to be with the WCSO.

"The callers are advising the residents that they have outstanding warrants for their arrest," a Sheriff's Office press release said.

They tell residents to purchase gift cards or bitcoins.

"They will then call the residents back and ask for the numbers on the card," according to the media release.

"The Wichita County Sheriff’s Office does not telephone people who have outstanding warrants. They also do not take credit card or debit card numbers over the telephone," the release said. "If you receive such a call, hang up. If you feel that you have received a suspicious call, contact the Sheriff’s Office at 940-766-8170."

WCSO advised residents to never give out credit card numbers or any other identifying information to someone who calls on the telephone.
